Why is Charlotte the Queen City?

Every wonder why Charlotte is called the Queen City? I did. Here’s what I found out.

Why Charlotte Isn’t the Queen City

I used to think that Charlotte was called the Queen City because it is the most populous city in North Carolina and Charlotte isn’t the capital of the state. At least, that’s what I was told about Cincinnati. But that logic doesn’t hold. After all, Albany is the capital of New York state and New York City is decidedly more populous than that.

Why Charlotte Is the Queen City

Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg became King Charles’ Queen Consort in the year before the city was formed. As British subjects, it was decided that the town be named in her honor. Once the town was named after the queen, we drew the nickname “Queen City.”

What Does this have to do with Web Site Design?

Little to nothing, really. However, while I was researching popular search terms for a client that wanted his Charlotte business to rank well for certain terms, I discovered that A LOT OF PEOPLE ASK THIS QUESTION in Google.

Traffic = Business

As a website designer, I want to get my client’s the most amount of traffic I possibly can. The more traffic I send to them, the more clients they get and the more money they make. So, when I see an opportunity to rank highly for a phrase like Why is Charlotte the Queen City?, as a website designer in Charlotte, I have to take it.

How This Article About Queen Charlotte Will Win Website Design Clients for Me

And yes, while the vast majority of people visiting this page will not own businesses, will not be looking for ways to get more traffic, and do not care at all about contracting me to develop a website that will rank highly in search terms, a few percent will. With the amount of traffic that this blog post will get per day, I am sure to gain at least one client. Not bad for a few minutes worth of work writing an article.

How Did this Article Rank So High For That Phrase?

Well, there’s a lot that goes into it. In short, I studied for years, developed a lot of websites, and learned what worked. Writing a blog post about things that go on in Charlotte and in the web development world is part of it.
