Backdoor Google Testing

Need a quick way to see if Google can actually read your site? Here’s a great quick, cheap, and easy way to find out if Google is interpreting your site the way you want them to.

Just add Google AdWords

Google AdWords is part of the big G’s advertising arm. This is code you put on your site that lets Google show contextually-relevant advertising. The ads are a good way to test if your site is scan-able by Google. If Google displays ads, congrats, they can read your site!

Are the ads relevant? Great! You have good SEO.

great advice, Ted. One issue that people might want to think through though … is leaving AdSense on your site. I often see small business entrepreneurs running AdSense on their site and I can tell by the relevancy of the ads that they are likely making a little profit. But don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

If you are trying to build a following and you are in something like a travel or the design business … where there are competitors all ’round the world, be careful you don’t use Google to pay you 50 cents for a click from a visitor who later spent $5,000 on an advertiser’s site.

AdSense, by design is made to attract clicks _away_ from what you are trying to build … but you are sure right that it is an excellent site testing tool … proves in a heartbeat that your general design and copy is working.
